Sign Petition to Veto FAA Bill
February 3, 2012 - Congress is considering an FAA Reauthorization bill that will harm air and rail workers' rights to form unions and, in the case of mergers, endanger current union members' bargaining rights.
As the Machinists Union and a diverse coalition of 18 other unions fight daily in Congress to remove the anti-worker provisions and support passage of a clean FAA bill, our collective focus is turning toward the White House and a presidential veto.
You can sign a petition on the White House website urging President Barack Obama to veto any FAA Reauthorization bill which includes provisions that endanger workers' contracts and the right to unionize by clicking http://www.elabs5.com/ct.html?rtr=on&s=jaz5p,ctut,hto,6rwv,4v0i,lqdc,9u2z
The Petition
WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO Veto any FAA Reauthorization which includes provisions that endanger workers' contracts and right to unionize.
An aviation safety and security bill is no place to impose unrelated and controversial labor provisions that will ultimately serve to harm both airline and railroad workers. The proposed Railway Labor Act changes would drastically rewrite a statute that was crafted by labor-management cooperation and has not been changed for over 75 years without the agreement of both employer and employee representatives.
Airline and rail workers would suffer significant losses as contracts are jettisoned, collective bargaining rights are cut and legal hurdles will be placed in the way of gaining a voice at work.
