Airline Local Lodge 1833 is a part of the 375,000 member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers often referred to as "The Machinists." As an affiliate of our International Union, we are in the mainstream of the trade union movement. We are affiliated with the American Federation of Labor, Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and the Canadian Labor Congress (CLC).

Airline Local 1833 was chartered on March 19, 1946 as the Twin Cities Aircraftsmen Local 1833 after workers at Northwest Airlines voted by a 90% margin for representation by the Machinists.

As of December 2006, our active membership roster includes 4531 men and women. Local 1833 members work in varied facets of the air transportation industry from major and regional airlines to fixed base and charter operations. Our members perform a wide variety of jobs to include aircraft mechanics, plant mechanics, ground support, equipment mechanics, equipment service employees, customer service agents, ticket sales agents, office and clerical personnel, reservation agents, flight simulator technicians and simulator support specialists, aircraft service technicians, fuel quality control technicians, cargo handlers, stock clerks, security and flight kitchen personnel.

We proudly represent the employees of Big Sky Airlines, Great Lakes Airlines, Northwest Airlines, and United Airlines throughout the upper midwest.

Airline Local 1833 conducts scheduled business meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 4:00 PM and the last Thursday of each month at 11:15 PM. The meetings are held at the Eagles Club Post #3208, 9152 Old Cedar Avenue, Bloomington MN.

Executive Board

   The Local 1833 Executive Board consists of eight officers and two non-voting members. Officers include the President, Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Conductor-Sentinel, and a Board of three Trustees. Non-voting members include the Educator and the Editor/Communicator.
   Officers are elected every three (3) years during the month of October and installed the following January. The next election of Executive Board Officers will be October of 2006. The Educator and the Editor/Communicator are appointed by the President.
   Local 1833 Executive Board meets twice monthly in the Conference Room of the Local Lodge Offices. Their duties include acting on all correspondence and to any emergency, and to make recommendations to the membership at the next regular meeting. The first meeting is called to order on the second Wednesday of each month at 3 PM, the day prior to the Day Shift Union Meeting. The second meeting is called to order on the third Thursday of each month at 3 PM, the same day as the Night Shift Union Meeting.
   Executive Board Meeting minutes are kept on file at the Local Lodge and can be viewed by members through a written request.

Committees
Local Lodge 1833 Bylaws establish twelve (12) committees to assist the Local in performing its day to day duties as well as special activities and events. Each committee has a specific function and makes regular reports to the Executive Board and the membership. All committee members are appointed yearly, in January by the Executive Board and approved by the membership, except the Auditing Committee. The Auditing Committee is elected every three (3) years. Committees are dependent on the volunteerism of the membership. Vacancies are posted on all Union Boards. Keep an eye out for a vacant position that may be of interest to you. Stewards
Find Your Stewards Each work group and location elects Stewards from their respective areas. Steward duties include dissemination of information, grievance investigation, attending meetings between managers and employees to bear witness and represent the employee in contract disputes and resolutions to other issues. Stewards are responsible to voice the concerns of the members they are elected to represent and to be a two-way informational resource between our Local and District Officers and the members. Stewards are led by a Steward Council supervised by the Local Lodge Vice President and assisted by the Chief Steward in each location. The duties of the Chief Steward are to coordinate, train and assist the Steward in carrying out their duties under the guidance of the Vice-President and the Education Committee. Chief Stewards are also responsible for conducting Steward elections and making temporary appointments as necessary. Chief Stewards are elected for a two (2) year term in December and assume their positions on January 1st. Stewards are elected yearly for a one (1) year term in December and assume their positions January 1st.
